Lemaître, Abbé Georges (1894-1966)
Belgian
born Roman Catholic priest, mathematician, and astrophysicist. In a 1927 note
he proposed that the universe originated from the explosion of concentration of
matter and energy that he called a "cosmic egg" or "primeval
atom." This was one of the first expressions of what is today the Big Bang
Theory of cosmic origins.
