We turn now from these general remarks about the doctrine of
God to specific issues arising for particular doctrines in light of
contemporary science.
The doctrine of creation has been explored fruitfully in
light of contemporary physical cosmology in various ways over the past four
decades. The ex nihilo form of the doctrine has been placed in relation
to two particular features of the standard Big Bang cosmology. The creatio
continua form has been discussed in terms of the temporal, developmental,
and historical character of the universe, with particular emphasis on
biological evolution (Part 2, C, below).
