Dirac, Paul (1902-84)
English
born theoretical physicist who shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in physics with
Erwin Schroedinger for his contributions to the development of <!g>quantum theory
and its relation to <!g>relativity theory. In 1930 Dirac also proposed the
existence of the "positron," a positively charged particle with the
same mass as the negatively charged <!g>electron. It was discovered experimentally
in 1932.
