Dirac, Paul (1902-84)
English
born theoretical physicist who shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in physics with
Erwin Schroedinger for his contributions to the development of quantum theory
and its relation to relativity theory. In 1930 Dirac also proposed the
existence of the "positron," a positively charged particle with the
same mass as the negatively charged electron. It was discovered experimentally
in 1932.
