Muscular DystrophyMuscular dystrophy is a term for a group of diseases involving muscle
deterioration. At least one form of the disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy,
appears to be related to deletions in a huge gene coding for the protein
dystrophin, which is then absent from the cells of sufferers. The gene is linked
to the X chromosome, so it appears predominantly in males.
