The ‘flat’ model is pseudo-Euclidean like the geometry of special relativity. The ‘saddle-shaped’ model has negative curvature and cannot therefore be embedded in Euclidean space, so it is harder to picture: it is shaped something like a saddle at each event in spacetime.
