These are not entirely original with Thomas but rely upon <!g>Plato, <!g>Aristotle, Avicenna, Maimonides, and <!g>Augustine. The section in which they are found takes the form of a question, "Is there a God?" and begins with the objections that there must not be a God because there is evil in the world and because natural effects can be explained by natural causes.
