Willem Drees
Dr. Willem Drees holds the chair in philosophy of religion, ethics, and
encyclopaedia of religion in the Department of Theology at the University of
Leiden, The Netherlands. He is also the president of The European Society for
the Study of Science and Theology (ESSSAT). From 1971-1977 he studied
theoretical physics at the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands). He studies
theology/philosophy of religion at The University of Amsterdam and the
University of Groningen. Drees also coordinated programs on religious,
philosophical, and social aspects of the sciences at Rije Universiteit
(Amsterdam) from 1989-2001. He held the Nicolette Bruining Chair for Philosophy
of Nature and of Technology from a Liberal Protestant Perspective at Twente
University (Enschede, NL) from 1995-2001. In 2001, Drees was the
executive director of ALLEA, the association of all European Academies. In
2000, he was a Dickinson Distinguished Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College
(Hanover, NH).. His Publications include Creation: From Nothing Until Now,
Is Nature Ever Evil? and Religion, Science and Naturalism
